THE SUNFLOWER ENTERTAINMENT GROUP FORMS

NOVEMBER 16, 2009 (New York, NY) – Sunflower Entertainment, a leading music publishing and licensing house specializing in Latin music, today, announced the formation of the Sunflower Entertainment Group (SEG). The Sunflower Entertainment Group was created when worldwide publishing administration agreements were reached with Regent Music Corp., Jewel Music Publishing, RagBag Music Publishing, Sunflower Music Inc., and Coronet Delphine Productions. The catalogues are rich with classics containing some of the most recognized songs of the past seventy years. Regent Music and Jewel Music (est.1936) dates back to Tin Pan Alley times owning such songs from Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton, Count Basie, Cab Calloway, Jerry Butler, Ike Turner, Jackie Wilson, Duke Ellington, Django Reinhardt, Thelonious Monk, Elvis Presley and the Holiday classics “Do You Hear What I Hear” and “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus”.

"We now not only represent classic and contemporary songs and recordings from Latin America, but now a piece of the American songbook. Beginning in 2010, SEG is planning a strategic promotional campaign (re)introducing the classic songs to film, TV and merchandise licensees. Additionally, new technology deals will be pursued to bring new life to the newly represented catalogues.

SEG continues to represent features such popular artists from the legendary Discos Fuentes catalog as Joe Arroyo, Sonora Carruseles, La Sonora Dinamita, and Fruko y Sus Tesos, as well as Bachata stars Zacarias Ferreira and Kiko Rodriguez, Merengue artist Oro Solido and premier Dominican artist Vakero.

SEG will continue to be based out of New York City and plans to open a Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic office.

"Jamar Chess, 28, grew up helping out at Arc Music Group, owner of the publishing catalog of Chess Records (the label founded by his grandfather, Leonard Chess). Eight years ago, Chess and his partner Juan Carlos Barguil moved into Latin music with Sunflower Entertainment, administering the publishing and masters of Colombia's Discos Fuentes, home to Joe Arroyo, Fruko y Sus Tesos and other stars of cumbia and salsa. Chess says that catalog's revenue tripled after signing with Sunflower. We saw a need in the Latin industry for proper publishing administration and representation, Chess says, as well as synch opportunities for amazing Latin music that is untapped. Sunflower now has more than 25,000 titles, including urban and tropical genres, and just started releasing its own compilations through the indie distributor Select-O-Hits."

   Sunflower Entertainment artist Kiki Sanchez, is currently in the studio recording his next album. Kiki fans will be in for a wonderful surprise as Afro-Peruvian sensation, Susana Baca will collaborate with him on some tracks. Kiki is an exceptional Peruvian pianist who incorporates various music styles, from Jazz to Afro-Peruvian and even Afro-Cuban to form a genre of his own.  Sanchez plays from the heart, each note is filled with such emotion that it would be quite difficult for anyone to ignore. Whether it is the melodic sound of the piano or the invigorating beats of the congas in the background, Kiki Sanchez shows that his music can be enjoyed by people from all walks of life.  One can sit back and enjoy a nice cup of coffee, tea or any beverage of preference while hearing songs such as “Timba” and “Dreams”. Although his piano style is predominantly “Latin-based”, one can say that Kiki’s style truly has an Afro-Peruvian flare with a touch of elegance.  This is due to the fusion of Jazz and Latin flavors, each complimenting one another and bringing the best of all worlds.

   Being a key figure in Afro-Peruvian music, Baca is a phenomenal singer who was a key influence in the revival of Afro-Peruvian folklore. Her voice is flawless, exquisite, full of feeling and a whole lot of soul. Her lyrics send listeners to another world, sending us on a trip to the past. Baca’s lyrics show a great deal of symbolic imagery, where themes such as African enslavement, liberty, love, and the hardships of life are clearly illustrated.

KIKI SANCHEZ COLABORARÁ CON SUSANA BACA

       Jésus Pagan Acevedo nació el 13 de Agosto de 1970. Siendo hijo de padres puertoriqueños, Acevedo provenía de una familia de 6 hermanos. Su inicio en la música fue desde joven, siendo influenciado por su familia (ya que sus seres queridos eran musicos de música tipica). Refiriéndose a la gran influencia de sus familiares, y los distintos sabores de los rumberos tocando en las calles del Bronx, el eminente compositor decía: “El haber crecido en la ciudad me ha nutrido de los New Yorquinos. Y en el junte familiar en las épocas navideñas, observaba a mis tios y primos ejecutar tan maravillosamente nuestra música Puertoriqueña.”

       Acevedo también expreso los idolos que han contribuido con su pasion por la música. “En mi caso, como en el caso de muchos, considero Hector Lavoe un gran idolo salsero, pero a mi lista se suman muchos otros, entre ellos Adalberto Santiago, Tito Allen, Nestor Sanchez e Ismael Miranda, por mencionar algunos. De lo mas reciente, devo decir que mis favoritos incluyen Jose Alberto “El Canario”, Charlie “El Combo” Aponte, David Pabón y Luisito Carrión.”

       Acevedo declara que aunque muchos artistas han despertado su necesidad por ser un compositor salsero, es muy importante desarollar un estilo unico. “Para mi, es muy importante ser original y trato todo lo possible por mantenerme en lo mio. El ser compositor, creo que me ha brindado esa oportunidad. No creo que mi estilo sea copia de otros. Eso es lo que me ha dado el exito, y la oportunidad de llegar con este trabajo musical al publico salsero. Sigo siendo fiel creyente del respeto a lo clasico y soy seguidor de lo que verdaderamente es bueno.”

Jesus Pagan Acevedo's new album, “Salsa de la Mata” (translated as “Salsa from the Roots”) has a variety of salsa spices, providing a unique, original and fresh sound. Pagan expressed that his passion for salsa initiated with music idols such as Hector Lavoe, Adalberto Santiago, Tito Allen, among other great Puerto Rican legends. In addition, Pagan's family (being musicians themselves) have been quite influential in his decision to start a music career.Without compromising his style, Pagan still preserves the classical feel of salsa, the instruments playing in perfect harmony, without any one instrument having an overpowering effect on a song.  In this record, “Salsa de la Mata”, Pagan and his musicians are all key players. Each song is packed with mambo and flavor, making it hard for just about anyone to not dance and feel the rhythm pass through your body.

Raul Acosta, better known in the music industry as "El Presidente del Merengue," has signed a music publishing and master representation deal with Sunflower Entertainment Co., Inc.

Raul was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, into a musical family. At the age of seven, he and his older brothers Ivan and Rafael, started a the music group called "Los Sobrinos Del Rey, a Dominican version of the Jackson 5. The group acheived some success performing on Domincan Television and was featured in the show "Amarillis con los Ninos.”

At 9 years old, the band broke up and the family relocated to the United States In 1994,

Raul Acosta y Oro Solido was formed in 1994. Over the past 14 years Oro Solido has become one of the most recognized Merengue bands in the world.  Raul has written and produced many hits songs and the band has released numerous hit albums and has repeatedly toured the world.

The group has performed major venues as the Meadowlands in New Jersey, Universal City Amphitheater in Los Angeles, El Zocalo de Mexico, Estadio Modelo de Ecuador, El Monumento in the Dominican Republic New York City's Madison Square Garden.

Included among the band that Oro Solidos has shared the stage  are 50 cent, Leann Rhymes, Marc Anthony, Fat Joe, Johnny Ventura, Wilfrido Vargas, Tito Puente, El Gran Combo, and The Temptations, just to name a few.

Oro Solido was also the first merengue band to perform on Fox 5 News and the Jerry Lewis Telethon.

Keeping in mind their humanitarian spirit, Oro Solido also does benefit work with various organizations such as March of Dimes, The Wheelchair Foundation, Health Plus, and the City of New York Commission of Domestic Violence.

Raul Acosta has won numerous Latin music awards throughout the years, including Premios Estrella, Premios ACE y Premio Lo Nuestro, just to name a few.

Sunflower Entertainement artist Vakero (aka Manuel Varet) will have his song  "Se Partio El Lapiz" featured in an upcoming episode of "CSI: Miami."  The from his 2007 album "Pa Ke Te Mate," on Jeremy Records. 

Also, an unreleased track from Vakero, "En El Barrio Ya No Hay Gente," has been placed in the independent feature film "Sin Nombre," which will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January. The film's executive producers include Mexican movie stars Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal. 

Vakero  is signed to Jeremy Records and is represented for publishing, administration, digital distribution and marketing in the United States by New York-based Sunflower Entertainment. 

Vakero's latest, "Manuel: El Cantante de los Raperos," was released Nov. 18.

Es el primer criollo del género urbano que logra entrar al catálogo de artistas que representa esta empresa

El representante del género urbano Vakeró ha logrado otro paso importante para en su carrera artística, tras haber firmado con la compañía internacional Sunflower Entertainment, quienes de ahora en adelante tendrán a su cargo la proyección del artista nacional e internacionalmente.

Como muestra del trabajo que está haciendo Sunflower por el rapero criollo en la noche del martes Vakeró sostuvo un encuentro con la prensa nacional para dar a conocer su nueva producción discográfica que ya está en el mercado titulada Manuel en la que incluye 14 temas, todos con la lírica y la música que este representante del género urbano tiene acostumbrado a sus seguidores.

"Son sonidos para gente joven y tiene lo que a la gente le gusta hoy día", sostiene el artista.

Esta es la tercera producción discográfica de Vakeró, pero la primera bajo el sello de Sunflower que ahora representa al artista.

"Para mí es una gran oportunidad la de poder hacer esta alianza con esta empresa tan importante y sobre todo que soy el primer representante urbano criollo que ellos tienen en el catálago, es una satisfacción muy grande", comenta emocionado Vakeró.

Entre los países que se han comenzado a difundir la música de Vakeró se puede mencionar, Estado unidos, Francia, España, Italia, Las islas Antigua, Holanda, Curazao, Aruba, México, Venezuela, Colombia, Panamá, entre otros.

Batlle Artistic Productions, Inc. announces the release of Desde El Cielo, Guajiro Natural, a collection of songs never released before by Cuban singer, and composer Polo Montañez (Fernando Borrego Linares), one of the most charismatic protagonists of the Cuban popular music of recent times.Desde El Cielo, Guajiro Natural literary means: from Heaven, the Natural Countryman, nickname given to him because of his humble personality and songs about the peasant life in Cuba.

He began his musical career in 1999. In less than a year he topped the hit-lists of the Cuban radio with the song “Un Montón de Estrellas”, from his first album, Guajiro Natural. Polo's music could not be classified in the traditional music sense; but his soulful and expressive voice as well as being a profound poet, has made him a musical phenomenon. This is an amazing collection of Salsa, Son Cubano, Salsa and Latin Jazz with recordings dating from the 60's to the 80's.

The group was discovered by Dominican radio personality, Anthony Diaz,on a trip from New York to Atlantic City. Under the musical direction of Alberto Plata, “Si La Ven”, became the first single. The song jump started their careers in their native land of the Dominican Republic . As a result of the local success of the single they recorded their first album aptly titled “Si La Ven”Distributed byCacao Records. Currently the band lives in Santo Domingo where their second album is being recorded.  Si La Ven finished 2006 as #1 on the Latin Bachata charts in Italy and Spain.

Dominican born El Angel De La Acordeon has signed with Sunflower.  Angel is an interpreter and songwriter of the "Merengue Tipico", the original,  "Merengue Ripiao",  as he says, his has the "acordeon " in his veins,  his grandfather and father played the instrument as well. 

His songs are great old school merengue listen and enjoy!!!

Sunflower Entertainment would like to welcome New York based Puerto Rican poet, actress, model and activist LA BRUJA to our publishing empire.  La Bruja has just finished her first album titled Brualicous which features both hip-hop and reggaeton tracks.  She recently graced the pages of "Marie Claire" magazine wearing a pair of LEVIS' (August 2005 issue page 45) very cool.
